Stångåstaden, owned by the municipality of Linköping, is the largest housing company in the area and a leading player in Sweden's housing market. Since the beginning of the year, they have increased their focus on reuse and are now operating a pilot warehouse for reused building materials from their own properties, already seeing positive effects. I spoke with Linnéa and Malin, two of the initiators at Stångåstaden, who are collaborating to increase reuse.

Linnéa is the Sustainability Coordinator and leads the internal reuse group at Stångåstaden, while Malin is the project manager in the property department. Together, they play a key role in developing a strategy to make reuse more measurable and scalable.

Linnéa explains that the focus has shifted towards internal reuse. This approach allows the organization to control the entire chain and primarily take responsibility for its own reuse initiatives. The leadership at Stångåstaden is very proactive regarding reuse, which has led to significant investments in this area.

“The reason we are focusing on reuse right now is that it addresses so many aspects of sustainability, including economic and environmental sustainability, as well as from a resource efficiency perspective. It’s very exciting,” says Linnéa.

Malin shares that the reuse initiatives have been well received within the organization, and the tenants view them positively, as it can also lead to faster service when replacements are needed.

At Stångåstaden, the goal is to reuse as much as possible. 💫

“With Palats, we have the opportunity to analyze reuse data over time and base our decisions on this data. We look forward to sharing our progress in reuse with our organization, our clients, and our industry peers,” concludes Malin.

So do we. 👏
