Skandia Fastigheter scales up reuse
Anna Rudström, Project Leader for Sustainability at Skandia Fastigheter, emphasizes the importance of scaling up reuse initiatives as part of Skandia Fastigheter’s sustainability strategy. She and her colleagues have now chosen Palats to systematize and expand the ongoing reuse of building materials within Skandia Fastigheter:
“Reuse is not completely new for us; we have been working with it in different ways. Now that we aim to scale it up, we need to work systematically. To do that, we needed a platform to support us, and that’s when we found Palats.”
New guidelines have just been launched, and there is a great understanding of and willingness to work with reuse within the organization. Through systematic approaches and commitment from the entire organization, Skandia Fastigheter aims to increase its efforts in reuse:
“Through Palats, we will systematically input data about our materials in a standardized way and make those materials visible to each other within the organization. We have high hopes that this will lead to great results in the coming years.”
Skandia Fastigheter wants to lead by example and show others that working with sustainability is both possible and beneficial:
"With our clients in mind, we need to demonstrate what is possible when it comes to reducing our climate impact. It’s all about showcasing good examples. For instance, when we remodeled our own office, we focused on reuse and managed to reduce our impact to as low as 12 kg CO2e per square meter.”
By initiating internal reuse within the extensive Skandia Fastigheter organization, Anna and her colleagues are laying the groundwork for external reuse and a future open business-to-business market for reused building materials. Anna explains:
"It's all about having the right materials available when they're needed and the key to making it work for real is to eventually work together and share resources within the whole property industry, through a common reuse platform."
The agreement with Skandia Fastigheter marks another significant step for Palats in the Swedish market, confirming reuse as a prioritized issue for real estate companies to achieve their climate goals. Henrik Olausson, Co-founder, and CEO at Palats, welcomes Skandia Fastigheter as a new Palats client:
“We're thrilled to kick off our collaboration with Skandia Fastigheter and help set up structures for this large-scale reuse initiative. Skandia Fastigheter’s reuse work will cover various types of properties and different locations, so there's huge potential!”
With a shared vision and ambitions for reuse, he sees that the collaboration will contribute to moving the industry another step towards large-scale reuse:
“Skandia Fastigheter sharing our vision strengthens our movement towards systematic and measurable reuse of building materials. We're excited to work together with Skandia to reach our goals this year and become a role model for the rest of the industry soon," says Henrik Olausson, Co-founder and CEO at Palats."
